Pollution of the River Murray by salt imposes costs on domestic and industrial users in Adelaide and to irrigators on the River Murray. Salt enters the Murray-Darling system through saline ground water aquifers and from irrigation and drainage of saline land. Irrigation and drainage generate benefits from improved agricultural productivity and impose costs through increased salt loads to the Murray-Darling system. The salinity of the River Murray can be reduced by pumping highly saline ground water into evaporation basins before it enters the River Murray. This paper presents a mixed integer linear programming model which is used to determine the mix of ground water interception schemes and land improvement schemes that minimises the net present value... |

The tantulus larva ofMicrodajus langi is redescribed using Scanning Electron Microscopy. Thoracopods 2–5 have poorly developed but fully armed endites. Thoracopods 1–5 are biramous, with each ramus represented by a minute segment. A new species,M. pectinatus, is described from a tanaid host collected in the Rockall Trough, off the west coast of Scotland. A system of homologies for the portopodal segments of the thoracopods of the tantulus larva is proposed. Some aspects of the musculature of the adult male are described for the first time. |

The major mechanisms for the transference of price and output risk by crop producers are examined. These include the use of futures and options contracts, government price-support and deficiency-payments programs, and crop insurance. Iso-revenue curves are used to highlight the distinctions between these alternatives. |

A contribution to the knowledge of the social organization of a population of Golden-rumped or Black-lion tamarin (L. chrysopygus) living in a stripe of natural vegetation in the State Park along the banks of the lower Paranapanema River, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Its composition and analysis based on captured groups, number of individuals and their distribuition in the area with concentrations; exchange of adults males, migration of individuals from groups and females home range establishment, indicate an organization which is likely to be matrilinear. The average number of individuals per group or expanded families, in the seven (7) captured groups was 3,57 specimens with a mean body weight in adults of 572,5 grams. In each group there is... |

Using a six x six latin square experimental design, five box types in two different markets were evaluated over a six-week period in 1986 to determine if sweetpotato arrival damage could be reduced through use of alternative shipping containers. Findings indicated that skinning, cut and break damage, and bruising could be reduced through use of either a 40-pound container or the 45-pound MUM box rather than using the current 50-pound box. Economic considerations, receiver preferences, and the actions of shippers resulted in the selection of a 40-pound shipping carton as the new standard for the North Carolina sweetpotato industry. |

An enumeration is presented of species of macrofungi considered to be threatened in the Netherlands. The list comprises 944 species, including 91 (presumably) extinct species and 182 species which are directly threatened with extinction. In addition for each species information is given on preferential habitat, substrate, if possible the associated organisms, way of habitat exploitation, estimated frequency before 1950 and after 1970 and presence in Red Data Lists of other European countries. The criteria used for placing a species on the Red Data List are briefly discussed. Some statistical data are presented on the proportional contribution of various taxonomic and ecological groups to the list. The most important causes for the decrease of threatened... |
